The IC697MDL653 is a digital input module belonging to the Series 90-70 Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) family. Formerly produced by GE Fanuc Automation, the module is now part of Emerson Automation following an acquisition. It offers high-density input capabilities, featuring 32 discrete input channels organized into 4 groups of 8 channels each, with group isolation for enhanced system flexibility.

Designed for 24 VDC rated operation, the module supports an input voltage range of -3 to +30 VDC (correcting the original "24 VDV" typo) and draws 10 mA of input current at 24 VDC, with a typical input impedance of 2.6 kOhm. Electrical specifications include:

On-state: 13.5–30 VDC voltage, 6–15 mA current
Off-state: 0–5 VDC voltage, 0–2 mA current (with a minimum 2 mA at 5 VDC input)
Isolation: 1500 VDC between individual channels and the backplane, 500 VDC between groups

The IC697MDL653 incorporates software-configurable input delay (1 ms or 10 ms) per channel and is compliant with the VME C.1 standard. It consumes 300 mA from the 5 VDC bus and supports both positive and negative logic wiring—each input group features a dedicated common terminal, with negative logic wiring connecting the positive wire to the common terminal and the negative wire to the input channels, while positive logic follows the reverse configuration.

Engineered specifically for Series 90-70 PLCs, this module is an ideal choice for systems requiring precise control over proximity switches, pushbuttons, and similar control components. It eliminates the need for DIP switches or jumpers for I/O configuration, with setup facilitated via MS-DOS-based software compatible with Windows 95 (supporting multiple execution methods). Top-mounted status LEDs provide visual indication of each input channel’s operational state.

A key feature is the module’s ability to function with a single interrupt-capable input when paired with PLCs from the GE IC696 product line. While compatible with other PLC types, certain advanced functionalities may be limited. All core specifications—including 32 input points (4 sets of 8), selectable 1 ms/10 ms input filter, 1500 VDC isolation voltage, and the full range of electrical parameters—remain consistent with its design intent for industrial control applications.
