The IC660ELB921 is a PC Interface Module (PCIM) primarily designed to facilitate connections with Genius I/O devices via the Genius I/O Bus, enabling seamless data exchange and supporting controller-like functionalities managed by the host controller. Originally manufactured by GE Fanuc, this PCIM module is now under the auspices of Emerson Automation.
As a single-slot "AT" form factor PC interface module, the IC660ELB921 supports the installation of one daughterboard (catalog number: IC660ELB912). It is intended for mounting in the ISA slot of a host computer, with memory requirements including 4 bytes allocated from the host device and an additional 16 Kbytes dedicated to the installed daughterboard. Power-wise, it draws a maximum current of 400 mA from the backplane at 5 VDC, with a tolerance of ±10%. In terms of bus performance, it features a bus loading of 1 LS TTL load per input and a bus drive capability of 10 LS TTL loads per output.
This module offers versatile connectivity options, including an interface for an external Hand-Held Monitor (HHM) and a serial bus connection accessible via either board-edge terminals or external connectors. Status monitoring is enabled through integrated LED indicators, specifically for "Daughterboard OK" and "Communication OK" statuses.
Environmental specifications for the IC660ELB921 are as follows: operating temperature ranges from 0–60°C (32–140°F), storage temperature from -40 to +70°C (-40 to 158°F), and relative humidity of 5–95% (non-condensing). It also maintains stable performance under operating conditions of up to 40,000 feet in altitude, 0.2-inch displacement vibration, and 5 G shock (10 ms duration).
Engineered as part of the Genius I/O series, the IC660ELB921 functions as a single-channel PCIM board, capable of interfacing with one Genius bus at a time. It is fully compatible with IBM PC, XT, and AT-type personal computers, and supports various Genius communication protocols as well as corresponding communication timing requirements.
The module is supplied with both a motherboard and a single daughterboard. Notably, the accompanying configuration software allows independent configuration of the daughterboard without relying on the motherboard. The daughterboard can connect directly to Genius bus devices and serves as a general-purpose I/O controller for the entire I/O system.
The motherboard of the IC660ELB921 plays a pivotal role in facilitating efficient communication between the daughterboard and IBM-compatible host computers, including buffering all signals required for interacting with the system's host bus. Key functionalities provided by the motherboard include support for ISA-compatible backplanes, low supply voltage detection, memory-mapped address decoding, and signal sequencing. Similar to the main module, the daughterboard is equipped with two LEDs to indicate board status and communication progress.
For optimal operation, the module requires 5 VDC logic power, with a permissible variation of no more than ±10% from the nominal voltage. A PCIM software library is included alongside the configuration software, offering a high-level interface between user-developed applications and the PCIM. This software library is available in versions compatible with MS-DOS operating systems, such as C/MS-DOS and BASIC/MS-DOS.
During installation, it is recommended to maintain a minimum clearance of 1/8 inch between this module and other adjacent modules to ensure adequate heat dissipation.
